A report by Strand Consult, a Denmark-based consulting firm has shown that the prepaid mobile top-up market is facing significant changes. The report shows that over 60% of the airtime and SMSs sold by operators, is sold as prepaid traffic.

Strand Consult believes that many operators can significantly increase the earnings (3.5% of EBITDA) if they choose to discontinue the use of traditional scratch cards that are currently being used by many customers to top-up their mobile phones.

The scratch cards can simply be replaced by using the electronic top-up. The electronic top-up can be achieved by using bank cards, and credit cards on ATMs and POS terminals.
